Video of the Week: Sierra Quitiquit + How Did I Get Here
Pro skier Sierra Quitiquit has a unique life. The Utah native has seen both tragedy and triumph—and a jet set life filled with big mountains and modeling for powerhouse brands ranging from Nike to Lululemon.
How did she get there? A new film to be released this fall—How Did I Get Here—chronicles her journey and inspirational story. Watch the new trailer for How Did I Get Here below.
Quitiquit’s story begins in Park City, Utah, growing up as the only girl among three brothers. Constantly traveling and often living out of a van with their parent’s while pursuing ski races, the Quitiquit’s grew up untamed, wild and close to nature.
“I’ve been on skis since I was two years old,” says Sierra Quitiquit. “Dad was a world-class ski racer set on raising my three brothers and myself as ski bum prodigies. Through racing, I was taught to mirror the boy’s aggressive nature. I learned to thrive on speed, conquer my fears and go big.”
After a family tragedy, skiing took a backseat for Quitiquit, until she was sent to finish school abroad, where she was quickly drawn to the mountains again. Then Quitiquit took time for the soul, traveling and skiing throughout Europe and South America, working odd-jobs to pay her way. Shortly after being back to the states, with a little push from her mom, she found herself as a semifinalist on America’s Next Top Model and was soon auditioning in the industry.
“I would take off early from my job as a line cook to go to modeling auditions,” says Quitiquit. “I remember standing in line next to the most gorgeous babes I’d ever seen thinking I had no business being there.”
To date, Quitiquit has modeled for brands including Nike, American Eagle, and Lululemon. She’s been published in major magazines like Cosmopolitan, Teen Vogue, and People and featured on billboards in major cities around the world.
As Quitiquit’s modeling career took flight, skiing was always at heart—driving her to work vigorously to build a career in both worlds. Her hard work paid off. She’s now sponsored by ski brands like Volkl, Bern, and Spyder, and has landed closing segments in major ski films.
Quitiquit says, “At the end of the day, I’m a skier. And I’m elated that I represent a sport where strength, hard work and tenacity define beauty.”
How Did I Get Here follows Quitiquit’s journey as she models and skis around the world. Locations include: New Zealand, Patagonia, Joshua Tree, Iceland, Utah, Japan, Alaska and Los Angeles.
“The film has amazing locations and high action, but what truly attracted me to it was Sierra’s story,” says Chris Kitchen, director, with KGB Productions. “Through all the ups and downs and obstacles along the way, Sierra’s genuine love of life shines through—and it’s magnetic.”
“No matter where you come from or what’s happened along the path, it’s a privilege to choose happiness,” says Quitiquit. “I am so grateful for all of the opportunities I’ve been given to grow as a human being. I hope sharing my story will inspire people to pursue their happiness and their greatest dreams.”
