Pro climber Jewell Lund is also an expert coffee roaster for Silver Bean Coffee Co. in Salt Lake City. Both of her jobs have made her seek out ways to beat the heat this summer.

“Roasting coffee in 105 degree weather is, well, HOT. No better word for it,” she says. “I’ve been living in tank tops and drinking four liters of water everyday. Needless to say, already excited for colder temps!”

Here, this Outdoor Research ambassador (who we profiled here recently) shares her top 7 women’s rock climbing + alpine climbing gear picks for the still-baking-hot, late-summer season—plus a few unique personal details.

1. Offline Tank: This is my go-to tank top ($31) for climbing, trail running, hiking, and…pretty much anything outside during the summer months (I’ve even been roasting coffee in it lately). This tank sports a trim fit and has movement-mirroring stretch, so once it’s on I never think about it.

2. Ferrosi Shorts: These shorts ($69) are long enough that I can wear them with my harness, but short enough to help me out on a sweaty approach. Same, lightweight fabric as the Ferrosi Pants. Hot tip: you may want to go a size up from what you order in the Ferrosi Pants, not sure why but the cut is different!

3. Echo SS Tee: The Airvent fabric of the Echo line breathes incredibly well. I wear this shirt ($39) when I’m moving a lot (climbing or hiking) but it’s a bit breezy to work instead of a tank top.

And for the summer alpine climbing trips:

4. Helium Hybrid Jacket: These jackets ($125) will soon be leaving the OR line, so get them while you can! This is the perfect lightweight wind shirt for days in the alpine, with waterproof Pertex Shield in the hood and shoulders—just in case of the afternoon mountain shower. It only weighs 5 ounces—amazing.

5. Voodoo Pants: These pants ($125) are great for alpine rock climbing. They are made of a double-weave soft-shell that makes them a bit more durable than the Ferrosi Pants, and perfect for when your approaches (and routes) involve scrambling on and squeezing through lots of rock.

6. Filament Jacket: Suuuper lightweight down jacket ($265), this packs down tiny into my pack (and into its own pocket to clip to your harness). I don’t notice it’s in there, but it’s warm when the occasional climbing day extends into a climbing night.

And for around town in the evening:

7. Coralie Long-Sleeve Shirt: I’ve started throwing this shirt ($75) on over my tank after a day of climbing, when evening temps set in. Made with hemp and organic cotton, it is simple and really comfortable.

WM: Best adventure executed in July?
Jewell Lund: I actually took July off of climbing (after a month on Denali, a break from climbing was finally necessary). But I did get to go backpacking in the Trinity Alps with my best friend Alli, who is getting her Ph.D. in Davis.

WM: Best place you’ve ever climbed?
Jewell Lund: Oh, that one is tough. I’d have to answer that based on what type of climbing. But, one destination I really love the Wind River Range for summer alpine rock climbing. There are some inspiring towers in this range, and the setting is truly spectacular.
I think my favorite place to sport climb is Turkey. The climbing is amazing, tech-y limestone. It’s also one of the coolest places I’ve ever visited: there are ruins everywhere, the food and architecture are both amazing. If I had to live in a big city, I’d probably choose Istanbul.

WM: Scariest backcountry experience?
Jewell Lund: Hmmm. We did a lot of high-consequence walking in New Zealand this spring, which I find terrifying. Think hiking with a heavy pack up a super steep cascade. If you fall you aren’t stopping for hundreds of feet, and this cascade is running with water with moss-covered slippery rocks. It was a stressful few days for me!

WM: Fav dish/recipe you’re cooking up this summer?
Jewell Lund: I’ve been using the BBQ quite a bunch. Really enjoyed grilling up some wild cod, and pairing it with Indonesian-style collard greens with coconut milk, ginger, turmeric and lime. And plenty of fruit!

WM: Fav apres activity?
Jewell Lund: There’s an epic taqueria in Salt Lake called Lone Star. A fish burrito and Tecate out on the patio with good friends is probably the best way I know to finish up a day of climbing.

WM: Song playing on your phone right now?
Jewell Lund: Two albums are on repeat on my phone currently: Streetsoul by Guru’s Jazzmatazz and The Phosphorescent Blues by the Punch Brothers.
