Gear: Icebreaker Tech T

Tired of the same old tee? We know the feeling. Now if only we could just find a comfy, do-everything t-shirt that looked just a little less wrinkled, traveled like a champ, stood up to active endeavors, and was easy on the eyes.

Enter the ultra-cute and highly efficient Icebreaker Tech Tee ($74.99), possibly the answer to our yearnings. Crafted of lightweight Merino wool, it drapes more and wrinkles less. Easy to hand wash in a hotel sink, the Tech T drys in a flash (and, thanks to its wool fibers, stinks less on days when washing isn’t possible), making it a solid travel partner.

And, while this sophisticated take on the t-shirt is part of Icebreaker’s Journeys travel collections, it works out well, moving seamlessly from the farmer’s market or the office straight to a hike. We wore it on a few mild-weather hikes, where its lightweight wool makeup performed well by wicking away moisture and keeping us dry on steep ascents. We also wore it on an experimental road bike ride, where we appreciated the Icebreaker Tech T’s chic longer length but we quickly realized that the V-neck delivered serious cleavage factor when bent over on a road bike (and a perfect entry point for road debris and bugs of all manner). We recommend keeping this tee on the hiking trail.

All things considered, this might just be the perfect t-shirt. We have to say that we’re not surprised that the Icebreaker Tech Tee was billed as “The greatest T-shirt in the world” by Gizmodo.
