Roux Maison Ambrosia Sport Laundry Detergent

Do you get excited about laundry? We do. Blame it on our need-for-clean OCD, but we probably take a little too much pleasure in tossing those dirty things in that perfectly round stainless steel basket and seeing them come out clean on the other side with the mere push of a button.

Which is exactly why we were excited to stumble across a highly effective—and positively eco-friendly—detergent engineered specifically for our sports and fitness clothing. Sweaty base layers, grimy bike clothing, or stinky running shorts—no problem. We tested Roux Maison’s Ambrosia Sport laundry detergent ($16.99 for a 16-ounce bottle that covers 40 loads) on about 20 loads of the stuff and were pleasantly pleased with the results.

When we read the directions, which called for just two of the bottle’s tiny caps filled with the lightweight detergent for a brimming full load, we had our doubts. That couldn’t be enough of the sulfate-free detergent to strip the grit from a week’s worth of outdoor endeavors. But everything came out downright clean, soft, and smelling lightly of lavender.

The ingredient list contains a pleasing blend of purified water, non-hazardous biodegradable surfactants, non-hazardous biodegradable salts, and “100 percent pure” essential oils. We can live with that. In a world where household cleaning supply ingredients, including detergents, aren’t required to be labeled, Roux Maison spills the beans without remorse. Their Sports detergent is free of some of the  most commonly used ingredients of concern (with both health and environmental effects), such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate, formaldehyde, pthalates, 1,4 Dioxane, phosphates, and parabens.
