Brooklyn-based visual artist Sarah Olson took brush to canvas to express the emotions of U.S. Olympic sprinter Lolo Jones, who will be hurdling towards the gold this summer in London.

The focus? According to Olson, fervent brushstrokes convey how Lolo Jones imagines herself as the eye of a massive storm catapulting herself over hurdles, both literal and symbolic. The athlete described to the artist how she feels as if a rope is pulling her through to the finish line.

This visually charged painting, entitled “Run Lolo Run,” was commissioned as part of the Oakley Beyond Reason campaign, which is paring a handful of the sunglass maker’s Olympic athletes with avant-garde artists in the days leading up to the 2012 Olympics.
